The LTD Signature Series guitar for Alex Wade of American deathcore band Whitechapel is back and better than ever! The AW-7 Baritone is a 7-string guitar at 27” scale, allowing for extreme downtuning with its extended lower range. The guitar’s swamp ash body offers an Open Grain Black Satin finish, and its five-piece maple/walnut/paduak neck has a Macassar ebony fingerboard and stainless steel frets. The AW-7 Baritone gets its tone from a set of direct-mount DiMarzio D-Activator 7 pickups, with enriched harmonic overtones and tight low end response. This guitar also features a Hipshot fixed hardtail bridge and LTD locking tuners.

Active humbuckers have a distinctive sound: powerful, clean, open-sounding, with excellent harmonic overtones and very tight lows. This also fits the description of a great 7-string pickup, if the problems associated with active pickups — sterile sound and limited headroom — could be eliminated. The D Activator 7 models do just that. And it doesn’t need batteries.

The Neck model has both power and clarity — the low “B” string stays solid and doesn’t sound like mud with extreme overdrive, and the high strings sing all the way up the neck.

The D Activator 7 Bridge has the same loud yet clean sound as the best active humbuckers, and killer harmonics. The low “B” string is all about attack, not mud. It responds instantly to hard or light picking. In a word: it rocks. No batteries required.
