The M8M is an 8 string solid body electric guitar introduced by Ibanez in 2012. It’s the initial signature model of Swedish guitarists Fredrik Thordendal and Mårten Hagström, known for their work with the progressive metal/ djent band Meshuggah. The M8M is built in Japan by Sugi and is based on the RG series.

FREDRIK THORENDAL
Fredrik Thordendal is a Swedish musician, best known as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the Swedish extreme metal band Meshuggah, of which he is a founding member. Along with Meshuggah’s rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström, Thordendal was rated No. 35 by Guitar World in the top 100 greatest heavy metal guitarists of all-time. Meshuggah first attracted international attention with the 1995 release Destroy Erase Improve for its fusion of fast-tempo death metal, thrash metal, progressive metal and jazz fusion elements. Since its 2002 album Nothing, Meshuggah has switched from seven-string to downtuned eight-string guitars. Meshuggah has become known for their innovative musical style, complex, polymetered song structures and polyrhythms. Meshuggah was labelled as one of the ten most important hard rock and heavy metal bands by Rolling Stone and as the most important band in metal by Alternative Press.

MÅRTEN HAGSTRÖM
Mårten Hagström is the rhythm guitarist for the Swedish progressive metal band Meshuggah. He joined the band after the release of their first album, which allowed Jens Kidman to focus on his vocal performances and give up rhythm guitar duties. He and fellow Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal are known for their complex rhythm guitar playing. Along with Meshuggah’s Thordendal he was rated No. 35 by Guitar World in the top 100 greatest heavy metal guitarists of all-time.
