Description

With its ’80s and early ’90s-inspired design and visual cues, the Les Paul Traditional line offers all the fat, sweet, snarling Les Paul tone and unparalleled playability that Gibson fans love, and which so many of today’s players grew up lusting after. Now Gibson USA gives this popular guitar the all-mahogany purity of classics such as the Les Paul Custom and Special models of the 1950s, yet with traditional Les Paul Standard features, in the great new Les Paul Traditional Mahogany Satin. The package includes two of Gibson’s most popular alnico PAF-style pickups, a fast ’60s-style neck with genuine rosewood fingerboard, and traditional ’80s-era appointments and construction, in an all-mahogany Les Paul that looks superbly played-in in your choice Satin Vintage Sunburst, Satin Cherry, Satin Ebony, or Worn Brown, all in nitrocellulose lacquer.

The Les Paul Traditional Mahogany Satin is crafted with all the classic ingredients that helped to make this guitar a legend, but with the purity of an all-mahogany body (Grade-A woods used under all but the Satin Ebony finish). The mahogany back is weight relieved with nine strategically placed holes that also enhance the guitar’s resonance, and capped with a carved two-piece mahogany top, just like the legendary Les Paul Custom introduced in 1954. The mahogany neck is made from quarter-sawn timber for superior strength and resonance, and topped with a Grade-A bi-layer rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and cream binding. Trapezoid inlays contribute to the traditional look, while the popular slim ’60s profile—measuring .800″ deep at the 1st fret and .875″ at the 12th—ensure unparalleled speed and playability, with a 12″ fingerboard radius for choke-free bending. The preferred 17-degree headstock pitch improves string pressure in the slots of the PLEK-cut Corian nut for optimum resonance and sustain.

The Les Paul Traditional Mahogany Satin carries two of Gibson USA’s most popular humbucking pickups, a ’57 Classic in the neck position for sweet, warm vocal tones, and a slightly hotter ’57 Classic Plus in the bridge for gutsy crunch and soaring lead tones. These acclaimed pickups are made with genuine Alnico II magnets and wound with 42 AWG wire, just like the legendary PAFs of the late ’50s and early ’60s, and offer a blend of depth and clarity that few pickups can match today. They are installed with chromed covers, in keeping with the “Traditional” styling. A Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece ensure a solid anchor and optimum sustain, while vintage-look TonePros™ tuners with pearloid buttons maintain the classic look. Further classic appointments include a mother-of-pearl Gibson headstock logo and silkscreened gold “Les Paul Model”, cream binding and pickguard, and gold Top-Hat knobs with silver inserts. ABOUT GIBSON:
Orville Gibson founded the company in 1902 as “The Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co., Ltd.” in Kalamazoo, Michigan to make mandolin-family instruments. Gibson invented archtop guitars by constructing the same type of carved, arched tops used on violins. By the 1930s, the company was also making flattop acoustic guitars, as well as one of the first commercially available hollow-body electric guitars, used and popularized by Charlie Christian. www.gibson.com
